Citrine is the stone of abundance, and it is unusual among crystals in having a reputation that is almost entirely positive and outward-facing. Where many stones are about healing something, citrine is about attracting something.
Its best-known nickname is the merchant's stone, from the old practice of keeping a piece in a cash box or till to encourage prosperity. That tradition survives today in the very common advice to keep citrine in a wallet, a register or the wealth corner of a home.
The other distinctive claim made for it is that citrine does not absorb or hold negative energy — it transmutes and disperses it instead. That places it in a small group, alongside selenite, said never to require cleansing. Whether or not you work with that idea, it is a genuinely useful practical convenience.
Citrine is best known for abundance and prosperity — the merchant's stone, traditionally kept where money moves. It is widely described as one of the most uplifting stones for joy and positivity in a room, long used for manifestation and setting goals around work and money, and associated with mental clarity and the flow of ideas. It supports confidence and personal power through its solar plexus connection, and it is traditionally said to be self-clearing, transmuting rather than holding negative energy so it does not need cleansing. Chakra-wise, citrine works with the solar plexus and sacral chakras. It is associated with the element of Fire, with Aries, Gemini, Leo and Libra, and is a November birthstone.
