Garnet is the stone of commitment. That is a slightly unfashionable word, and I think it is exactly the right one — it is not about the spark of new romance so much as about staying, showing up, and meaning it.
Its traditional associations are with devotion, loyalty, sincerity and honesty in relationships, alongside passion and vitality. The old use as a traveller's talisman fits the same theme: something carried to ensure safe return.
What I find most interesting is its association with anger — specifically with controlling it, including anger directed at yourself. That is an unusual and quite specific traditional use, and it is one people still come to it for.
Garnet is best known for commitment and devotion, in relationships and in commitments to yourself. It is traditionally used for passion and vitality to revitalise feeling when things have gone flat, for trust and sincerity between people, and for steadying anger, particularly anger turned inward. It is also associated with releasing outdated ways of thinking and, in its oldest recorded use, protection on journeys, carried by travellers for safe passage. Chakra-wise, garnet works with the root and sacral chakras — grounding and passion together.
